Welcome to the online nomination system for the following awards and recognitions:
You may nominate deserving students, staff and faculty for each of these awards on this website. All nominations must be submitted by the deadlines indicated here. Please note that nomination deadlines vary based on the award / recognition.
A description of each award, and who is eligible, follows.
I. Maroon & Gold Society
Loyola University Chicago created the Maroon & Gold Society in 2011 to recognize and engage outstanding Seniors.
Maroon & Gold Society Criteria
- Rising Senior [someone who will be enrolled as a Senior in the next academic year]
- Must anticipate completing 90 credits by September in the next academic year
- Nominated by faculty, staff, students and/or administrators
- Self-nominations are prohibited
- Limited to 25 new members each year
- Must have completed two semesters, or the equivalent, at Loyola University Chicago and completed a minimum of thirty credits at Loyola University Chicago by September in the next academic year
- Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student
- Rising Senior eligible whether graduating before, in, or after May in the next academic year
- Nominee must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above, as listed in LOCUS
- Nominees screened by the Office of the Dean of Students.
- Intentional selection of diverse cohort, including race, ethnicity, religion, major, gender, sexual orientation
- List must be approved by the Vice President of Student Development

II. Damen Awards
The Damen Award is named for Loyola University Chicago's founder, Arnold Damen, S.J. It honors undergraduate students who have committed themselves to Jesuit ideals by being a source of inspiration and leadership to the Loyola community throughout the year. These students are people who have led other students in spirit, motivation, and purpose.
Damen Award Criteria
- Currently enrolled undergraduate students are eligible
- May not receive award in two consecutive years
- Will not be considered for award if selected for The Maroon & Gold Society
- Nominated by faculty, staff, students and/or administrators
- Self-nominations are prohibited.
- Limited to 10 recipients
- Must anticipate completing two semesters, or the equivalent, at Loyola University Chicago and anticipate completing a minimum of 30 credits at Loyola University Chicago by September in the next academic year
- Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above, as listed in LOCUS
- Nominees screened by the Office of the Dean of Students.
- Vice President of Student Development/Division of Student Development staff screen nominee list
- Campaigning for nominations is prohibited and will result in disqualification
The Jesuit Ideals, referred to above, are:
- Commitment to excellence.
- Faith in God and the religious experience.
- Service that promotes justice.
- Values-based leadership.
- Global awareness.
III. Graduate, Professional, and Adult (GPA) Awards
The Department of Graduate, Professional & Adult Student Life is pleased to present the Graduate, Professional, and Adult Awards. These awards are designed to recognize and showcase Loyola University Chicago graduate, professional, and adult students and organizations who have contributed to the success of graduate or professional student organizations and programming.
- Outstanding GPA Student Leader Award
This Award recognizes a Graduate, Professional or Adult [GPA] student that has demonstrated outstanding leadership in a graduate student organization. They have transcended the duties of their role and embodied the principals of Magis.
- Any currently enrolled Graduate, Professional, or Adult (SCPS) student is eligible.
- No nominee may receive this award for two consecutive years.
- Nominated by faculty, staff, student, and administrators.
- Self-nominations are prohibited.
- One award will be presented each year.
- Nominee must have completed one semester in good academic standing at Loyola University Chicago by January 2024.
- Nominee must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above, as listed in LOCUS.
- Nominees screened by the Office of the Dean of Students.
- Respective College Dean must approve the nominee.
- The Graduate, Professional and Adult Student Council selection committee will select the recipient.
- Outstanding GPA Student Organization Award
This award recognizes a student organization that is either a graduate or professional student organization or a student organization with majority Graduate, Professional, & Adult students that promotes and embodies the organization’s mission and has shown a commitment to the university’s mission.
- Any student organization with a majority of Graduate, Professional, or Adult (SCPS) students is eligible, including sponsored student organizations.
- Nominated by faculty, staff, student, and administrators.
- Self-nominations are allowed.
- One award will be presented each year.
- Student organization advisors will be consulted.
- The Graduate, Professional, and Adult Student Awards selection committee will vote on finalists
- Outstanding GPA Program of the Year Award
This award recognizes a group or student organization that has produced an outstanding program/event/lecture that made a significant contribution to the Loyola University Chicago community.
- Any student organization or group with a majority of Graduate, Professional, or Adult (SCPS) students is eligible, including sponsored and ad hoc student organizations.
- The program may be a conference, summit, lecture, or social event.
- A faculty, staff, student, or administrator must nominate the organization.
- Self-nominations are allowed.
- One award will be presented each year.
- Student organization advisors will be consulted.
- The Graduate, Professional, and Adult Student Awards selection committee will vote on finalists
IV. Diversity Awards
The Center for Diversity & Inclusion is honored and excited to recognize recipients of diversity awards for the 13th year. Awards are designed to highlight and showcase key Loyola University Chicago students, alumni, faculty, and staff members who have contributed to the success of our diverse student population academically, spiritually, culturally and professionally. They also highlight outstanding individuals who have committed themselves to embracing diversity and social justice at Loyola and within their community.
- CDI Emerging Leader Award
- This award recognizes a first or second-year undergraduate student who has motivated other members of the University to strive for excellence. This individual embraces diversity and serving humanity through learning, justice and faith. They are committed to their own personal learning and development along with the growth of their peers.
- Current first or second-year student [someone who will have completed less than 60 credits at Loyola University Chicago, as of the time of nominations for this award]
- Includes Arrupe College students
- Must anticipate completing two semesters, or the equivalent, at Loyola University Chicago or Arrupe College by September in the next academic year.
- Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above, as listed in LOCUS.
- Nominated by faculty, staff, students, and administrators
- Self-nominations are prohibited
- Limited to one recipient. Previous award winners are not eligible for nomination
- CDI Social Justice in Action Award
- This award recognizes a current LUC undergraduate, graduate/professional, or Arrupe College student who has demonstrated leadership in assisting the University in responding to its commitment to diversity. This student has worked to develop a university community that appreciates and respects all facets of diversity. This student’s leadership initiatives are in the forefront of exploring issues regarding diversity and they are actively working to expand their knowledge in the service of humanity through learning, justice and faith.
- Must anticipate completing two semesters, or the equivalent, at Loyola University Chicago or Arrupe College by September in the next academic year.
- Includes Arrupe College students
- Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student or graduate/professional student
- Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above, as listed in LOCUS.
- Nominated by faculty, staff, students, and administrators
- Self-nominations are prohibited
- Limited to one recipient. Previous award winners are not eligible for nomination
- CDI Father Arrupe Award
- This award recognizes a graduate or professional student that has made an outstanding contribution to their department, to students, and the LUC community. This individual has promoted diversity, equity, and inclusion and found an appropriate balance between their educational goals and the desires to help underrepresented students succeed.
- Must anticipate completing two semesters, or the equivalent, at Loyola University Chicago as a graduate student and anticipate completing a minimum of fifteen credits at Loyola University Chicago by September in the next academic year.
- Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above, as listed in LOCUS.
- Nominated by faculty, staff, students, and administrators
- Self-nominations are prohibited
- Limited to one recipient. Previous award winners are not eligible for nomination
- CDI Community and Solidarity Award
- This award recognizes an active registered or sponsored student organization that has shown exemplary commitment to the University community and has made a great effort to provide underrepresented students with a supplemental source of support. This organization is a role model for any group working with and serving underrepresented students.
- Any currently registered or sponsored student organization including graduate and professional student orgs
- Nominated by faculty, staff, students, or administrators
- Limited to one organization. Previous award winners are not eligible for nomination
- Self-nominations are prohibited
- CDI Transformative Education Award
- This award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated a commitment to student development and has gone beyond their administrative role to address the needs and concerns of underrepresented students. This individual provides students with the opportunities to explore issues regarding diversity, identity development, multicultural education, social justice, and leadership initiatives. This ultimately enhances the retention, matriculation, and success of historically underrepresented students.
- Any full-time, part-time, tenure-track or adjunct faculty member is eligible.
- UNIV 101 instructors are ineligible
- Must have worked at Loyola University Chicago for at least two semesters, or the equivalent, as of January in the next academic year
- Includes Arrupe College faculty
- Nominated by faculty, staff, students, or administrators
- Limited to one recipient. Previous award winners are not eligible for nomination
- Self-nominations are prohibited
- Nomination must be approved by Human Resources
- CDI Lifelong Commitment to Justice Award
- This award recognizes a professional staff member who has shown a strong commitment to student development and has gone beyond their administrative role to address the needs and concerns of underrepresented students.
- Any full-time or part-time staff member, including UNIV 101 Instructors
- Must have worked at Loyola University Chicago for at least twelve months as of January 1st in the next academic year
- Includes Arrupe College staff
- Nominated by faculty, staff, students, or administrators
- Limited to one recipient. Previous award winners are not eligible for nomination
- Self-nominations are prohibited
- Nomination must be approved by Human Resources
